I am not for the government coaxing its citizens to do this and that. However, if the government is going to take a paternalistic role in our lives then President Obama and Congress should spend more time encouraging entrepreneurism rather than spending so much time disparaging business.
The American Heritage Dictionary defines an entrepreneur as a person who organizes, operates, and assumes the risk for a business venture. Our economy grows through new wealth creation generated by entrepreneurs. All large businesses such as Microsoft, Ford, Amazon.com, McDonald’s, Crocs, and Starbucks were begun by entrepreneurs with a clever idea for a new business. New businesses, large and small, created from entrepreneurial activity create and sustain the wealth that our federal, state, and local governments depend on for their activities.
We especially need young people to consider entrepreneurism. Too many young people take the path of thinking I just need to get a good college education so someone can give me a good job. Rarely do they stop to think that someone had to take the initiative and risk to create a new business that would provide that job. It is my belief that if President Obama and Congress begin to encourage entrepreneurism that we will take large strides towards fixing our ailing economy.
